Seth Prestwood

Seth Prestwood is a multidisciplinary artist working across many mediums, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. He has done dozens of murals around the country, and in February of this year he completed his first one in Austin, the longest he has done to date.
Seth has lived all over the country, from Miami to Washington State, and spent a few years in Chicago before moving to Austin in 2021. He city shopped for a bit before landing here, drawn by the active lifestyles of its residents and the many natural cold springs and waterways, which are also what keep him here.
Alongside his art, he works as an events producer for Future Front Texas, an arts non-profit that hosts creative events showcasing local, underrepresented communities. Next he is working on a coffee-table style book that encapsulates his many art forms, with accompanying short memoir essays.
Seth answered these questions in writing, in August 2026.
What do you make or do, in plain words?
I'm a multidisciplinary artist, working across many mediums, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and photography.
How did you land in Austin, and why did you stay?
I've lived all over the country, from Miami to Washington State, and was in Chicago for a few years before moving to Austin in 2021. I really just wanted more nature, warmth, and a better quality of life. I city shopped for a bit before landing in Austin; the active lifestyles of its residents and the many natural cold springs and waterways are what drew me here, and keep me here.
What is the thing you have made or done here that you are proudest of?
I completed my first mural here in February of this year. I've done dozens of murals around the country, but this was the first one in Austin, and it's the longest one I've done to date. I'm most proud of it because it's right on the Ann and Roy Butler Trail around Lady Bird Lake, a trail I've biked and walked for the last 5 years, so I feel like this is my way of paying my respects to the city and trail.
What is one opinion you hold about Austin that most people here would argue with?
That it's not diverse. I've been fortunate enough to work as an events producer for an arts non-profit here, Future Front Texas, and we host an array of creative events which showcase local, underrepresented communities. The events always bring out a plethora of people of all ages and ethnicities.
Where do you actually eat, drink, or hang out? Name real places.
I am a homebody by nature, but when I have friends visit, I definitely have a list of my favorite places to take them to. (I'm an East sider through and through, so most of them are on the east.) Kinda Tropical, De Nada, Vegan Nom, Cosmic Saltillo for food and drinks. Palomino, Flitch, Figure 8, Sa-Ten for coffee. The Little Gay Shop for gifts and books. Hippie Hollow for nude swimming and sunbathing.
What are you working on next?
A coffee-table style book that encapsulates my many art forms with accompanying short memoir essays.
What would you tell someone who moved here last week?
Don't ever complain if and when we're getting a lot of rain.
