KUTX’s July Artist of the Month, Quentin just released their debut album, TOMGIRL. On Saturday, August 29 they played MeadowFest at Radio/East, on a bill with Cimafunk, Chuwi, Combo Chimbita, Angélica Garcia, Gina Chavez, and Jon Muq.

Quentin answered in writing, in early August.

What do you make or do, in plain words?

I’m an artist. I create things from my mind and bring them into reality. I’m an alchemist.

How did you land in Austin, and why did you stay?

I came to Austin on a whim in 2017. I stayed because I’ve built so much family and community here.

What is the thing you have made or done here that you are proudest of?

TOMGIRL is the thing I’m proudest of. It’s the best work I’ve ever done.

What is one opinion you hold about Austin that most people here would argue with?

I think we still have a long way to go when it comes to truly supporting artists in a way that allows them to make a living and pay their rent.

Where do you actually eat, drink, or hang out? Name real places.

I love Vegan Nom, Tyson’s Tacos, Amy’s Ice Creams, Home Slice Pizza, and Neighborhood Sushi.

What would you tell someone who moved here last week?

Go to Barton Springs, then go to Chuy’s or Don’s in San Marcos.

What are you working on next?

I’m working on a lot right now, and I can’t say too much yet. But there will definitely be more music and an expansion of my multiverse.
