Things to do in Austin this weekend.
A short, curated set for July 24 to 26: what is actually worth leaving the house for, picked and verified. Not a scraped calendar.

Disco for the DV Movement: A Fundraiser for Texas Council on Family Violence
Chess Club · 6:00 PM
This is the fundraiser I’d catch if I wanted my night out to do some good, with 100% of ticket sales going to the Texas Council on Family Violence. DiscoTex, billed as Austin’s top ABBA tribute band, plays Chess Club on Friday, July 24, and I’d expect the dance floor to fill fast.

The Matrix, poolside
Austin Motel · 8:30 PM · $25
The most Austin way to beat the heat this weekend is to watch a movie from a pool. The Austin Motel runs its Float Film series on South Congress, and Friday it is The Matrix, doors at 5 and the film at dusk. Tickets are about $18 through ResortPass, with an optional take-home float. Capacity is limited, so I would grab a spot before Friday, not at the gate.

Kayak Trash Cleanup
Austin Rowing Club · 9:00 AM
This is the volunteer outing I’d sign up for if I wanted to get on the water with a purpose, paddling the Butler Trail while pulling trash from around 300 acres of parkland the Trail Conservancy maintains. I’d get there early to sort out a kayak, and I’d bring water and sun protection since it’s a July afternoon start at the Austin Rowing Club.

Tarot Basics in the Park with Austin Tarot Reader
Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park · 10:00 AM
The one I’d catch for a low-key introduction to tarot is this two-hour beginners’ class at Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park, where the focus is reading through color, numerology, and the four elements rather than memorizing meanings. Since it’s outdoors in late July, I’d bring water and get there early to claim a shady spot.

H-E-B Banana Block Party
10:00 AM
The H-E-B Banana Block Party is the free family outing I’d point to on July 25, running 10 a.m. to noon at Virginia L. Brown Recreation Center. Between the banana-themed STEM activities, kid yoga, a costume contest, and DJ KICKIT on the decks, I’d get there near the 10 a.m. start so the little ones can catch it all before the bubble show.

Superhero Day at Thinkery
Thinkery · 10:00 AM
This is the one I’d take the kids to, with cape design, mask crafting, and inflatable villains to test their skills against. I’d time it around one of the storytimes at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m., since those lean into the courage and kindness theme.
