What do you make or do here that a neighbor walking past would never guess?

“I’m a voice actor, so someone walking by would probably be surprised to know there was a person inside a booth yelling battle cries, doing animal and creature sounds, or having a tearful breakdown into a microphone. My home studio is pretty soundproof, but every once in a while a high-pitched scream will set off one of the neighborhood dogs and they’ll start barking! I also direct and coach professional voice actors for commercials, animation, video games and other media, in addition to producing professional voiceover demos for actors locally here in Austin and remotely across the U.S. and Canada.”

What brought you to open where you did, and what is different about that spot now?

“Austin has such a great mix of film, advertising, animation, gaming and independent creative work, so it really made sense for what I do. I already had a career as a voice actor and producer, but Keep Dreaming Creative grew out of seeing a need for more specialized voiceover training and professional demo production here in Central Texas. Since then, I’ve been able to bring in other industry professionals for workshops and create more opportunities for local actors to train with people they might otherwise have to travel to LA or somewhere else to work with. Austin’s voice acting community has grown quite a bit too, and I love that actors here can build careers in voiceover while working with clients and studios all over the country and internationally.”

What is one other Austin business you send people to when they need something you don’t do?

“Block House Sound is a great local recording studio with really affordable rates for voice actors. Everyone I’ve sent there has had an amazing experience with Joel Block, the owner, so I’m always happy to recommend them when someone needs a professional studio here in Austin. blockhousesound.com I also love SPACE ATX. I use their studio for my voice acting workshops here in Austin, and Adam Gibbs is always incredibly accommodating, especially when I’m bringing in larger groups of actors. spaceatx.com And I have to shout out Lone Star VO as a wonderful local resource for Texas voice actors, founded by the very talented Lindsay Sheppard. They’ve created a great community and resource for actors looking to connect, learn more about the industry and find voiceover opportunities here in Texas. lonestarvo.com”
