No Austin fence company in our census publishes a fencing license number, and two of them write plainly that Texas does not require one for the trade, so the companies worth shortlisting are the ones that publish something else a buyer can hold them to. Those are Austin Brothers Fence Company, started by two brothers in 2012, which prints its full warranty terms and its exclusions; Pickets Fencing Co., which backs every fence for five years and hires its crews out of Austin reentry programs; Austex Fence & Deck, whose twelve-month warranty names the gates it will not cover and puts drought watering on the homeowner; and Proud Steel Fence Co., a one-welder steel shop offering five years on labor and ten on materials. Sixteen of the forty readable fence-company websites in our Austin census state a warranty in months or years at all, and the single license number that appears anywhere belongs to a company that labels it a security license, not a fencing one.
Start with the thing that shapes this whole category. Ask an Austin fence company whether it is licensed and you can get two very different answers. Austin Fence Contractors writes on its own site that a license is not required for fence contractors in Central Texas, so it does not claim one, and Paragon, ranked below, answers the same question by writing that Texas has no state license specifically required for fence contractors. Austin Fence & Deck Builders answers it with a flat yes, that it is fully licensed and insured in the state of Texas, and publishes no number. Across 44 fence-company websites read in a single day, exactly one license number appears anywhere, and the company that publishes it calls it a security license rather than a fencing one: Compound Security Specialists prints Security License #B10581401, with no state, agency, or scope attached to it. Plenty of companies here advertise being licensed. None of them publishes a fencing license number, so that is not the thing to check.
What is left to check is what a company will put in writing. Every company ranked below is independent and run from Austin, with the site saying where it works from, and every one was read for the three things that actually separate fence builders once the license question comes up empty: a warranty stated in a number of months or years rather than in adjectives, a build spec specific enough to argue with, and a named owner or crew. The warranty is the sharpest filter. Of the 40 readable websites in our census, 16 state a term at all, and the ones worth reading twice are the ones that also print the exclusions, because a fence warranty that does not mention wood movement, drought, or gate sag is a warranty that has not met a Texas summer.
The build specs are where the ranking gets its order. Post depth around 24 inches for Central Texas clay, steel posts rather than wood, three-rail framing, galvanized ring-shank nails that will not rust and streak the pickets, screws instead of nails, western red cedar rather than imported, iron manufactured in house rather than bought as panels. Those are all claims a homeowner can hold a contractor to on install day, and they come from the companies’ own pages. The list runs from a 1988 access-control shop and a family firm with three decades of founder experience behind it down to a one-welder steel operation and a company that treats every fence as a paycheck for someone leaving prison, and the entry tells you which errand each one is for.

The most complete warranty document in the category, and the reason it ranks first is that it is a document rather than a slogan. Austin Brothers guarantees all work free of workmanship defects for one year from the date of installation, with defects in that period replaced at no cost to the owner, and then does the harder thing: it prints what is not covered. Wood is not warranted against warping, waning, cracking, or termite infestation. Damage from shifting soil or acts of nature is not the company’s responsibility. Non-payment voids the whole thing. Pre-manufactured ornamental iron carries the original manufacturer’s warranty, ranging by product from 5 to 20 years. Two brothers started the company in 2012 and by its own account still play an active role in every project. The front end is unusually good too: a GPS imagery tool that lets a homeowner draw their own fence line and price popular designs without a site visit, 3D renderings of the design, costs calculated down to the nail with a fixed markup that holds through the scope of work, and the current lead time posted on the homepage rather than discovered after the deposit.

Five years, the longest general fence warranty published by any company in this census, and the sentence attached to it is the one that matters: the same crew that built the fence is who answers when you call, with no call center in between. The build spec is stated rather than implied, and it is the expensive version of every choice. Steel posts set in concrete instead of wood. Three-rail framing instead of two. Kiln-dried cedar chosen for Austin heat and shifting clay. Finished caps and tight pickets. There is also a 3D tool that measures, designs, and prices a fence online before anyone visits, which very few companies at this size bother to build. And then the part that makes Pickets unlike anything else on this page. The company was founded to do two things at once, and says so plainly: build fences that last decades, and put people leaving incarceration into real paid work with mentorship, benefits, and structure. It hires through Austin reentry programs and local prison ministries, and stays with the crew long past the first paycheck. Every linear foot funds that.

The warranty page every other fence company in Austin should read before writing its own. Austex warrants limited materials and all workmanship against defects for twelve months from the date of installation, and then names the two things it will not stand behind: standard double drive gates built with wood posts and a wood frame, and walk gates over 42 inches built the same way. Both are the exact places a gate sags, and saying so up front is more useful to a buyer than a longer term would be. The page also carries a drought clause that appears on no other warranty page read for this list, telling homeowners that keeping moisture in the soil around the post footings is their job, that dried and shrinking soil pulling away from a concrete footing will loosen posts and throw gates out of true, and that this is weather rather than bad installation. Behind it is the largest track record published on this page: family owned, serving Central Texas for more than 30 years and more than 200,000 completed projects by its own count, a named quality control department and a full time service department, fences plus decks and patio covers, and a service area of 23 named Central Texas communities.

Five years on labor and ten on materials, the longest pair of terms anywhere in this census, from the smallest published operation on the page. Proud Steel is one master welder, Richard Burdick, and the company’s whole argument is a refusal: it never installs prefabricated steel panels. Every fence line, gate, and railing is measured, cut, and welded on the property itself, to the property’s own dimensions, its slope, and its HOA rules, which is the answer to the sloped lots, blackland clay, and limestone that make a standard panel sit wrong in half of Austin. The welding rig is self-powered, so no extension cords and no access to the homeowner’s electricity, which matters on a raw lot or a driveway gate with no service run yet. Work is steel only, from residential fence lines and driveway gates through commercial cantilever gates and matte black interior and exterior railings, plus mobile welding for a bent post or a stuck track. Quote requests get a reply inside 24 business hours by the company’s own commitment. One caveat the site states itself, and the reason a longer warranty does not move this pick higher: Proud Steel is a new Austin business, and the twenty years standing behind it are Burdick’s own time in the trade rather than the company’s.

Paragon Fence & Outdoor
One of two warranties here that does not wait for the phone to ring, and the shorter-dated of the pair. Every Paragon fence carries a one-year craftsmanship warranty plus a service visit one year after install, where the company inspects the fence, tightens what needs tightening, and handles any warranty work automatically. Purple Fencing, further down, is the other, at two years. The spec is equally specific, with western red cedar, heavy-duty fasteners, and posts set at the depth the soil calls for, which the site puts at around 24 inches in Central Texas. Paragon is also the second company in this census to answer the licensing question by writing that Texas has no state license specifically required for fence contractors, and it says it is insured and registered to pull City of Austin permits instead. Its story page is unusually direct about where the owner came from: Jefferson Cloward grew up around fence construction in a family business, and in its words, in 2012 he co-founded Austin Brothers Fence Company, which grew to hundreds of projects a year and multiple crews, and in early 2026 he left to start Paragon around custom work, architectural materials, and projects where design is part of the conversation from the start. He is in every project from the first site visit through installation rather than handing off after the estimate. One honest caveat: the company itself is only months old, so the nearly twenty years of experience behind it is his, not its.

A one-year warranty on labor and workmanship from the date of installation, and the useful half is what Sierra says it does not cover: shrinking, warping, cracking, and fading, because wood is a natural product and premium cedar and pine only reduce those effects rather than prevent them. Pre-manufactured products from Ameristar, Fortress, and CertainTeed carry their own longer manufacturer terms on top. The team is named on the site, which is rarer here than it should be: founder and lead project manager Richard Novigrod, office manager Cary Novigrod, Christian Mayo who joined his parents in 2022, and Hector Rendon, on the team since 2017. One dedicated project manager runs a job start to finish. On dates, the site says two things and this page prints both rather than picking the flattering one. The banner reads since 1995 with 30 years of experience; the About text says family owned and locally operated since 2012; and Richard’s own bio credits him with over 30 years of fencing experience in Austin. The earliest founding year printed by any company on this page, and the only company anywhere in our census that publishes a license number at all. What it publishes is the string Security License #B10581401, with no state, agency, or scope named alongside it, so what can honestly be said is that the one license number in this category is labelled a security license rather than a fencing one. Compound has been doing outdoor security in Austin since 1988, starting as two welders taking repairs and small jobs, and the scope now runs gates, access control, cameras, low voltage, alarms, and fences as one package. That combination is the reason to call them rather than a fence builder: if the perimeter has a callbox, a camera, and a code, one contractor owns all of it. The work is weighted commercial, with multi-family, storage, government, and new construction, taking part in over 100 new builds a year and handling over 200 service calls a week by the company’s own count, and by its own account it received a Distinguished Building award in 2020 from the AGC, which the site names only by those initials, for its part in The Muze Student Living Project. There is also an over-the-counter parts counter at the South I-35 address, which nobody else in this category offers.

Custom driveway gates are listed at $4,000 to $18,000 and up, which is more than most homeowners expect and exactly the number they need before the first call. The company has worked Austin and the Hill Country since 2008, is owner-led, and says the quiet parts out loud: not a franchise, not a call center, a real person answers, and by its own count more than 1,000 gate installations and a same-day rate above 90 percent on emergencies. Warranty coverage is two years from the manufacturer plus a year of free labor on top. Everything it installs it also repairs, and everything it repairs it also fabricates, so a bent gate frame and a dead callbox are one visit. It names the operator brands it services rather than leaving that vague: LiftMaster, DoorKing, Viking, US Automatic, Apollo, and FAAC. The census still files this business under its older name, Lake Travis Fence.

A two-year workmanship warranty, double the one-year term most companies here publish, paired with a staffing promise most companies avoid making: AT4 does not rotate crews or hand a project to an unfamiliar subcontractor, and says the same experienced team shows up, finishes, and stands behind it. The other reason it earns a rank is the material guides, which are genuinely instructional rather than decorative. The site walks through imported cedar against western red cedar as a cost-versus-lifespan decision, redwood, wood styles, pipe and ranch fencing for larger properties where visibility matters more than privacy, and when aluminum, vinyl, or chain link is the right call instead of the default. Repair is treated as a diagnosis rather than a quote. The repair page inspects posts, rails, soil conditions, and overall stability to decide whether a targeted repair or a full replacement makes structural sense, names shallow embedment and narrow concrete footings as the reason movement shows up early, and says plainly that when several posts lean the same way, swapping isolated posts may not solve the underlying problem.

Landmark installs powder-coated galvanized steel for its iron fencing, chosen for durability and low maintenance rather than for looks. It uses galvanized ring-shank nails on every wood fence, and explains why in one line a homeowner can verify years later: the nails will not rust, so there will be no rust runs streaking down the boards. Its most commonly used pickets are western red cedar. The site says outright that the footings, the depth of the holes, and how the concrete is mixed all play a vital role in the quality of a fence, which is the correct thing to care about and the thing cheapest to skip. A one-year material and labor warranty on every installation, over two decades of local work, and one credential with an actual date attached to it, which is rarer here than it sounds: accredited with the Better Business Bureau since March 12, 2015. Most companies in this category claim accreditation without saying when, and a dated claim is a checkable one. The scope is broad without drifting out of the trade, running wood privacy fences and wrought iron through vinyl, chain link, decorative, and farm and ranch, plus custom-built and automatic gates fabricated to match the fence, decks and railings, and commercial and industrial security work including razor and barbed wire for sites that need it. Every project opens with a free on-site visit where the crew walks the property, measures the run, and talks through material and gate placement before a written price, which the company frames as its whole differentiator. One thing to ask about, in fairness to a company this page cuts for the same shape: Perimeter’s site answers a combined question about being licensed, insured, and BBB accredited with a yes, and the answer underneath it claims only that the company is fully insured, BBB accredited, and locally owned. No license number appears on the site, as with everyone else here. The office is on Research Boulevard, and the metro coverage reaches Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Leander, and Lakeway.

Electric and automatic gates only, and the founding story is a diagnosis of the niche rather than a slogan. Owner and chief executive Evan says he started the company in 2017 because electric gates are a narrow market where companies were either unresponsive or lasted only a few years, and he wanted one customers could rely on for the long haul. The site then does the thing that backs it up: it names the team. Leslie as co-owner and chief operating officer, Ignacio coordinating production, and five technicians, Gavin, Mike, Michael, Jose, and Victor, split between service and installation. Very few companies in this census will publish a crew list at all. The work covers residential and commercial gate design, installation, repair, and maintenance, plus access control, for gated communities and property managers as well as homes, and the published service area names nineteen Central Texas communities from Bear Creek and Henly to Georgetown and Manor.

The one company here that publishes manufacturing as a step in its own process rather than a material it buys in, and it lists that process in this order: consultation, measurement, manufacturing, installation. That extra step is the whole reason to call them for a curved railing, a non-standard drive gate, or a run that has to follow an awkward grade, and it is exactly the job the site’s own customer quotes describe other companies declining. The catalogue is deep for the category, covering wood, custom powder-coated iron, chain link, commercial and sports fencing, pool enclosures, security fencing with access control, dumpster gates, railing, and masonry, and it carries the Sundance and Fortress iron lines. There is both an instant online quote and a separate budget calculator, which is more self-serve pricing than most of this list offers. Two gaps worth knowing before you call, because the site does not answer them: there is no warranty term published anywhere, and no founding year. Ask for both in writing when you bid.

An owner-run shop that fences under the name Austin’s Fence Pros, and the terms it publishes are the plainest on this page. Kevin, the owner, puts his name on the promise: only the best materials available, a one-year guarantee on all labor, realistic schedules that accommodate the client’s life rather than the crew’s, and the term that actually has teeth, that contracts are only paid in full when the finished work is to the customer’s complete satisfaction. That is a payment structure rather than an adjective, and it is the sort of thing worth asking every other company on this list to match. Kevin says he has served Central Texas for over 26 years and quotes the jobs himself, which shows up in the work the company takes: metal, wood, and wrought iron, including a curved section bent for a pool enclosure that the customer says nobody else would touch, and repairs on sections other companies were not interested in. The website is thin, and that is not a mark against it here.

That is a narrower term than the companies above it, since it is materials rather than workmanship, and knowing the difference is the point of reading this page at all. What the company offers instead is speed and reach: horizontal and vertical wood, chain link, and iron fencing plus repair, across Austin, Georgetown, San Marcos, Round Rock, Buda, Kyle, Lakeway, Bastrop, and New Braunfels, with customers describing Tim arriving for an estimate within an hour of the call. Open seven to seven on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Its own site is J&J Automatic Gate Service & Design, with a Rendon Road address in Burleson, an 817 phone number, and location pages for Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, and Burleson, serving eight North Texas counties. Good automatic gate work, run from the metroplex.
- Vision FencingThe Austin listing is real and there is a named Austin team, but the company is run from North Carolina. Its own homepage is titled as a fencing contractor in the Charlotte area, it describes itself as the Carolinas’ fencing contractor, and the phone number on the page is a 704 area code. It publishes a one-year workmanship warranty and a limited lifetime materials warranty, which is more than most of this census manages.
- Discount Fence USAThe closest call in this list. It is Texas owned, second generation, founded by a US Army veteran named on the site as Daniel A. Honig, Sr., and it publishes a minimum one-year warranty plus free repair of any sprinkler, water, sewer, or gas line damaged during a project, which is a real and unusual commitment. It is cut on footprint: the company works Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, and this page ranks only companies run from Austin alone.
- Viking Fence and Rental CompanyA Texas company since 1972 and a useful call, cut for two reasons at once. It is run across five metros, with Houston, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio locations behind one 800 number, and its product is rental rather than installation: temporary chain link, event barricades, portable sanitation, storage containers, and dumpsters. For a jobsite or a festival it is the right call. It is not building anyone a back fence.
- Texas Fence RentalLocally owned and based in Austin, and cut on what it does rather than where it is. - Austin Fence BuildersA site nobody is minding. The copyright line reads 2022, the census address is a suite in the Littlefield Building while the site’s own footer gives a different downtown mailbox address on Congress Avenue, and the customer FAQ has been injected with online casino spam links sitting between the questions about post depth and dog-proofing. The fencing answers underneath are perfectly sensible. That is not enough when the front door has been open this long.
- Austin Fence & Deck BuildersCut on a credential claim. Its FAQ answers whether it is licensed and insured in the state of Texas with a flat yes, that it is fully licensed and insured, and no license number appears anywhere on the site. Another Austin fence company answers the same question by writing that a license is not required for fence contractors in Central Texas, so it does not claim one. Established 2012 and probably a decent builder; the claim is the problem.
- Forever Fence & GateCut on geography, with a template artifact worth flagging on the way past. The contact block gives a Cedar Park address, which puts it outside the Austin-proper rule, and its own services section still carries the site builder’s stock copy offering plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting alongside the fencing. The ranch and wrought iron work described elsewhere on the page reads genuine.
- Kb Contractors TXA women-owned Austin design and installation firm whose chief executive, Kelsi Bodin, is named on the site, which is more transparency than most of this category offers, and which states a commitment to safe labor practices and livable wages for its team. It is cut as a general contractor rather than judged as a fence company: fencing is one of roughly seventeen services listed alongside CNC cutting, masonry, irrigation, electrical, plumbing, and outdoor kitchens.

But its site and a Cedar Park brand’s site run the same theme and page template, share two distinctive turns of phrase, and answer to consecutive numbers in the same phone block. Whether they are one operation, and whether that should matter to a buyer, is not something this page could settle in a day.
- True Built Fencing AustinHeld on identity. This is truebuiltfencing.com, a different company from the ranked True Built Fence at truebuiltfence.com, and the census address is a mailbox suite on Guadalupe Street rather than a yard or a shop. The site publishes no owner, no founding year, and no warranty term, and describes itself in the sort of general terms that could belong to anyone. Nothing here says the work is bad. It says we could not establish who does it or from where.
- K2 Fence & StainHeld on a missing page. K2 publishes one genuinely checkable build spec, screws-only construction with rust-proof screws and multiple grades of wood offered rather than one, and it does installation and staining under one roof across Austin and six named communities. But its about page returns a 404, no warranty term appears anywhere on the site, and the only company-age figure is 40 years of industry experience, which is the team’s rather than the company’s. Ask for a warranty term and a founding date.
- ProTouch Fence & DecksHeld for thin publishing. An Austin shop in Montopolis doing custom wood and metal work, gates, doors, corrals, agricultural, ornamental iron, pool and tennis court fencing, and temporary fences, with over 15 years of experience selling and installing. There is no warranty term, no owner named, and no founding date on the site, so there is nothing here to rank against the companies that publish all three.
- Prestige Fence & DeckHeld for the same reason. Building fences and decks in Austin since 2013, custom fencing and custom deck construction, responsive on repairs by its customers’ own accounts. The site states the founding year and then stops: no warranty term, no owner, and no build spec beyond adjectives. That is a page to rank once a warranty appears on it.
- Red Lion FencingHeld on a warranty with no number. Red Lion Fencing and Exteriors is locally owned, does installation, repair, and staining across Austin, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Buda, Kyle, West Lake Hills, Oak Hill, and Manchaca, offers financing, and takes photo uploads with an estimate request. Its warranty section promises warranty protection and never says for how long, which is the exact gap this page ranks on.
- Patriot Fence & Roofing Co.Held for thin publishing and a narrow fence footprint. An Austin company on Menchaca Road doing vertical and horizontal wood, wrought iron and ornamental steel, bull panel, and chain link, with an office open weekdays and staff who will meet you in person. That is a reason to withhold judgment, not to publish one.

EleFence is an Austin company on Riata Trace Parkway with a satellite-imagery tool that returns an estimate in about a minute, and it promises a fence workmanship warranty without ever saying for how long. No term, no owner, and no founding year appear anywhere on it. Ask for the term in writing.

- Casa Fence Company AustinHeld because the site is a one-line placeholder with the company name and nothing else on it, re-confirmed with a browser request on 2026-09-09. No services, no address, no contact, nothing to check. The business may be perfectly active; the website is not.
- B.R.P Fence & DeckHeld because the domain in the census does not resolve at all, re-confirmed on 2026-09-09 as a name-server failure rather than a slow site. Two domains are associated with this name and one of them is dead, which is a reason to call before you drive, not a reason to write anyone off.
- Sanchez and Sons ServicesHeld because the site returns an access denied response to every request, including one with an ordinary browser user agent on 2026-09-09, so nothing about this South Austin company on Matthews Lane could be verified. Blocked is not the same as failing, and the bench is where blocked belongs.

- Do fence contractors need a license in Texas?
- Not according to the contractors themselves. Austin Fence Contractors writes on its own site that a license is not required for fence contractors in Central Texas, so it does not claim one, and offers insurance and a written warranty instead. Paragon Fence & Outdoor writes that Texas has no state license specifically required for fence contractors, and says it is insured and registered to pull City of Austin permits instead. Across 44 Austin fence company websites read for this page, exactly one license number appears anywhere: Compound Security Specialists publishes Security License #B10581401, and its site attaches no state, agency, or scope to it, so what is verifiable is that the one number in this trade is labelled a security license rather than a fencing one. Advertising a license is common here even though publishing a number is not, so treat any flat claim of being licensed in Texas for fence work as a question to ask rather than an answer, and get insurance and the warranty term in writing.
- How much does a fence cost in Austin?
- Almost nobody in this category publishes a number, which is itself worth knowing before you start calling. The one clear exception is Austin Estate Gate, which lists custom driveway gates at $4,000 to $18,000 and up. For fence lines, the companies here consistently name the same four drivers: the material, the length of the run, the terrain and grade, and whether an old fence has to come out first. - Proud Steel Fence Co. publishes the longest pair, five years on labor and ten on materials, though it builds in steel only and its own site describes the company as new. Pickets Fencing Co. backs every fence it builds for five years, the longest general fence warranty in this census. A two-year group sits behind them: AT4 Fence at two years on workmanship, Landmark Fence & Deck at a free two years plus ten years from the manufacturer on iron, and Purple Fencing at two years extended with a service visit at the end. Most of the rest are one year, and Austin Estate Gate pairs two years of manufacturer coverage with a year of free labor.
- What does an Austin fence warranty usually not cover?
- The exclusions are the interesting part, and the best companies print them. Sierra Fence excludes shrinking, warping, cracking, and fading, because wood is a natural product. Austin Brothers excludes warping, waning, cracking, and termite infestation in wood, takes no responsibility for damage from shifting soil or acts of nature, and voids the warranty on non-payment. Austex does not warrant standard double drive gates or walk gates over 42 inches when they are built with wood posts and a wood frame, and its warranty page puts drought on the homeowner, explaining that soil drying and pulling away from concrete footings will loosen posts and throw gates out of true.
- Who installs automatic driveway gates in Austin?
- Three companies here treat gates as the main event rather than an add-on. Austin Estate Gate has done it since 2008, publishes a price band, and names the operator brands it services, including LiftMaster, DoorKing, Viking, US Automatic, Apollo, and FAAC. Gate Doctors works electric gates only, was founded in 2017, and names its whole crew on the site. Compound Security Specialists covers the gate plus the callbox, cameras, and access control as one job, which matters on a commercial or multi-family perimeter. Northwest Fence & Iron and Paragon both fabricate custom gates alongside their fencing.
- What should I ask a fence company before signing?
- Four things, drawn from what the strongest sites here publish and the weakest ones omit. Ask for the warranty term in months or years and for the exclusions in the same document. Ask how deep the posts are set and in what, since the companies with the best answers here name roughly 24 inches in Central Texas clay and set in concrete. Ask what the posts and fasteners are made of, because steel posts, galvanized ring-shank nails, and rust-proof screws are the details that separate a fence at year seven. And ask whether the crew that quotes the job is the crew that builds it, which AT4 and Pickets both commit to in writing.
- Is it better to hire a fence company that manufactures its own materials?
- It depends on the job. Northwest Fence & Iron manufactures its ornamental iron in house and publishes consultation, measurement, manufacturing, and installation as four separate steps, which is what makes a curved railing or an odd-angle drive gate possible. Proud Steel Fence Co. refuses prefabricated panels entirely and welds every fence line and gate on the property, which is the answer to Austin’s sloped lots and limestone. For a standard cedar privacy run on a level lot, a good installer working with manufactured stock will build you the same fence for less, and the specs to compare are the posts, the framing, and the fasteners.
How this list was made
This page started from our own census of Austin businesses, which holds 64 fence contractors plus one fence supply store, which is not a contractor and is not ranked. Forty-four of those 64 give an Austin street address, nineteen give no street address at all, which is how a mobile trade is usually listed, and one is in Del Valle. Eight of the 64 publish no website. Forty-four of the remaining 56 sites were read in a single day; the other twelve are staining specialists, landscapers, and general contractors whose fencing is one line of a much longer service list, plus one duplicate domain. Four of the 44 returned nothing a reader could use: one is a one-line placeholder, one domain no longer resolves, and two return bot blocks to every request. That leaves 40 readable websites, and every count on this page is against 40 rather than 64. Two rules govern the ranks. Every company is independent and run from Austin, which cut a Fort Worth operator, a Burleson gate company listed downtown, a Charlotte company with an Austin team, a three-metro Texas firm, a Round Rock repair company listed at an Austin mailbox, and a Cedar Park family business alike. And every company publishes something a buyer can hold it to, which is where the ordering comes from: a warranty stated in months or years, a build spec specific enough to argue with, and a named owner or crew. Sixteen of the 40 state a warranty term at all. Three of the census addresses turned out to be shared mailbox suites. One on Guadalupe Street holds a fence company alongside a web design agency, a tour operator, a house cleaning service, and a nonprofit, all at the same suite number. A second on the same street holds another fence company alongside a roofing firm, a mental health provider, and a moving company. The third, in the Littlefield Building downtown, holds two fence listings and two marketing agencies, and one of those listings belongs, on its own site, to a Burleson company serving Dallas and Fort Worth. Companies whose sites could not be read are named on the bench rather than in the cut list, because unreadable is not a judgment. Three sites an earlier pass had recorded as unreadable turned out to render perfectly well to an ordinary browser request, so they were re-read and re-judged on what they actually say. No ratings or review counts were used at any stage. Nobody paid to be here, no company saw the list before publication, and the cut list explains the closest calls.
Across 44 Austin fence company websites read in one day, exactly one license number appears anywhere, and the company that publishes it labels it a security license rather than a fencing one: Compound Security Specialists prints Security License #B10581401, with no state, agency, or scope attached. Of the 40 sites that returned readable text, 16 state a warranty in a number of months or years, so a homeowner comparing three quotes in this city has better than even odds that at least one of them will not put a term in writing. The gap between the top and the bottom of that set is not small either: five years on labor and ten on materials at one end, and at the other a warranty section that promises protection and never names a period.
